Sook incumbent assemblyman's 23-year-old son eyes Tulid seat

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star) is eyeing the Tulid seat, with the son of an incumbent assemblyman openly expressing interest towards the seat - one of the new 13 state seats to be contested in the upcoming state polls.

Jordan Jude Ellron, the 23-year-old son of Sook incumbent assemblyman Datuk Ellron Angin, said he was ready to offer himself to be fielded if the party leadership gave their blessings.

In a statement released here on Tuesday (Aug 11), the Star youth vice chief is optimistic that young voters will determine the formation of the government in the future, as they (18 to 30 years old) account for more than 48 percent of the total number of eligible voters in Sabah.

The new seat Tulid, is under the Pensiangan parliamentary constituency, together with Sook and Nabawan.

Jordan’s father Ellron was a former national sprinter who won the Sook seat under the Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) ticket but left to be an independent after the fall of Barisan Nasional in the 2018 elections. He proceeded to join Star at the end of that year.

The Nabawan seat was held by Datuk Bobbey Suan who left Upko and joined Bersatu, while the Pensiangan parliamentary seat is held by PBRS deputy president Arthur Kurup.

“It is time for younger leaders to be given a chance in the political arena, including becoming elected representatives.

“As a potential young candidate, I would like to continue the legacy and struggles of reviewing the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) to see its original spirit and intentions restored," said the Business Bachelor's Degree holder who recently graduated from Unitar International University.

Jordan wants to be the voice representing the youth and elevate the Kadazan Dusun Murut Rungus (KDMR) community by pushing for the restoration of MA63.

He also aimed to see that voices of the younger generation in Sabah will be heard, especially the voices of those living in the interior.

“We hope to bring their views to the government's attention," he added.
