RM45bil Covid-19 fund, face mask prices among issues to be raised in Dewan Rakyat Tuesday (Aug 11)

KUALA LUMPUR: The RM45bil Covid-19 fund, children in detention centres and the cost of face masks are among issues to be raised in Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (Aug 11).

Chong Chieng Jen (PH-Stampin) will ask Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi to state the rationale for the Ministry to

increase the ceiling price of 3-ply face masks from 80 sen per piece to RM1.50. Kasthuri Patto (PH-Batu Kawan), meanwhile, will be asking Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin on the number of children under the age of 18 in

Henry Gurney detention centres and immigration detention centres nationwide.

She also wants to know the action taken by the Home Ministry and the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry to address the issue of children in immigration detention, including the status of the implementation of the

Alternative to Detention (ATD) project.

June Leow Hsiad Hui (PH-Hulu Selangor) wants Environment and Water Minister Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man on efforts to cultivate green lifestyles in the post-pandemic new normal.

Lawmakers are also expected to debate and pass the Temporary Measures For Government Financing (Coronavirus Disease 2019) Covid-19 Bill 2020 to set up a RM45bil Covid-19 Fund.

The House will also see the Supplementary Supply (2019) Bill 2020 tabled for the first reading for a sum of RM4.97bil.

Also to be tabled for the first reading is the Supply (Reallocation of Appropriated Expenditure) Bill 2020 for a sum of RM7.86bil following the forming of the new Cabinet in March this year.

The Dewan Rakyat meeting began on July 13 and will convene till Aug 27.
