JOHOR BARU: Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has expressed his disgust over poaching activities that were still rampant in the state.
His Majesty said even though he has raised the issue of poaching many times before, he was disappointed that no actions have been taken.
Sultan Ibrahim also received information and several pictures of a large-scale poaching activity that was carried out on Saturday (Aug 8) night.
“How could this happen? I want the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) as well as the police to carry out investigations and prepare a full report about the incident.
“All these hunters are believed to own a self-made shotgun, ” His Majesty said in a statement posted on Sultan Ibrahim’s official Facebook page here Sunday (Aug 9).
Sultan Ibrahim also decreed that all those involved including the mastermind behind the poaching activities be brought to justice.
His Majesty added that based on early information, among the locations for poachers were at Endau-Rompin, Mersing and Kahang where animals such as deer and hedgehogs were being hunted down in a large scale to be sold for traditional medicine purposes.
Sultan Ibrahim said the authorities should also investigate if the weapons used have any licence.
His Majesty stressed that hunting was not allowed in Johor except to control wild animals at farms or agricultural areas.
“I want the police to carry an audit about firearms license ownership in the state including individuals, companies and farm owners. How can there be so many people who own a shotgun? Obviously it is for hunting.
“I also want an investigation to identify if there is any internal involvement within Perhilitan and police to curb these illegal activities, ” said His Majesty.
