BALIK PULAU: A 42-year-old man was handed a RM1,000 compound for violating his home quarantine order by visiting a fair at the Spice Arena Convention Centre here on Friday (Aug 7).

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt A. Anbalagan (pic) said the man was spotted wearing the white wristband by one of the exhibitors when he passed one of the booths at the convention center in the 5.45pm incident.

"An exhibitor at the fair informed the police that a man wearing a white wristband was passing by one of the booths at the convention centre. The man, however, left the booth when he realised that the owner of the exhibition booth saw the wristband that he wore," he said in a statement.

Supt Anbalagan added that the man, who works as a technician in a factory in Kulim, was supposed to fulfill his 14-day home quarantine and attend a follow-up screening on Aug 10.

He also said the man had committed an offence under Regulation 10 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020 by violating his quarantine order.

Supt Anbalagan said the man was taken by police to the Bayan Baru police station and a compound was issued to him there.

"A check on his wristband found that the man tested negative during the initial Covid-19 screening performed on him," he said.

Supt Anbalagan urged the public to inform the police if they came across any violators of the home quarantine order.
