ISKANDAR PUTERI: Police have crippled a syndicate that has been breaking into houses by renting from homestay operators to gain access to areas they were targeting.
Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the group had been actively involved in break-ins around Iskandar Puteri for about three months.
"They would rent a homestay in luxurious housing areas so that they would have the access card to enter these places.
"They would then break into other houses that were left empty around the housing area and steal belongings," he told a press conference at the Iskandar Puteri police district here on Thursday (Aug 6).
ACP Dzulkhairi said they arrested six men, aged between 24 and 41, in four different raids carried out in Johor Baru on Tuesday (Aug 4) following a break-in report they received on Monday (Aug 3).
He added that among the items seized from the raids were branded bags, watches, cameras, a television, cash and a stolen car.
