PETALING JAYA: The police have arrested 21 people for gambling by playing mahjong here.
Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said police personnel raided a premises along Jalan 20/7, Taman Paramount here, at around 4pm on Friday (July 31).
"We first arrested a man believed to be the owner of the premises. We conducted further checks there and found 15 men and five women aged between 35 and 77 playing mahjong.
"We believed there were bets placed as we also found cash and chips on the tables," he said in a statement Saturday (Aug 1).
He said they seized four sets of mahjong tiles, mahjong paper, 215 gambling chips, eight dice as well as RM3,413 cash.
"All suspects were arrested under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and were later released on police bail.
"They were all issued RM1,000 compounds for violating the recovery movement control order (MCO)," he said.
