KUANTAN: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah joined fellow Muslims to perform Hari Raya Haji prayers at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Mosque here.
His Majesty, accompanied by Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, arrived at the mosque at 8.25am yesterday.
The royal couple were received by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and other state leaders.
Also present was the Regent of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah Al-Sultan Abdullah.
They were dressed in matching grey baju Melayu.
The prayers were led by the mosque’s chief imam Mohd Hafiz Suhaili while the sermon was read out by Kuantan Kadi Abdul Aziz Abd Karim.
Sultan Abdullah also witnessed the sacrifice of nine cows for the occasion in the compound of the mosque before departing.
Separately, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin performed Hari Raya Haji prayers with the congregation at Saidina Umar Al-Khattab Mosque in Bukit Damansara, Kuala Lumpur.
The Prime Minister, who wore a yellow and red baju Melayu complete with a sampin, also put on a face mask.
He brought his own prayer mat in compliance with the standard operating procedure to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The prayers, which began at 8am, were led by Imam Mohd Fikri Che Hamid.
The mosque’s chief imam, Mohd Rahimi P. Ramlee, said the congregation had their body temperature checked and observed a 1m physical distancing inside the mosque.
He said the mosque had limited the congregation to 700 people, comprising 600 members of the parish with special weekly pass and another 100 with special passes for walk-in Muslims.
