KUALA LUMPUR: A sickly couple from Johor received a surprise visitor while celebrating Hari Raya Haji at home.

Amran Kasnan was taken aback when Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong paid him and his wife a visit. Dr Wee spent some time checking on the couple’s condition in Taman Berjaya Yong Peng.

“In conjunction with Hari Raya Aidiladha, I took the opportunity to return to my constituency and paid a visit to Encik Amran.

“He is suffering from severe gout while his wife has heart problems.

“I also handed over medical aid of RM1,000 to the couple, ” he said in a Facebook post yesterday.

Dr Wee expressed hope that the assistance could help reduce their burden.

“I pray that the couple will regain their health soon and attain an improved quality of life, ” he said.

Later, Dr Wee visited and presented a RM4,000 donation to Mohamad Rais Ciauddin at his Taman Desa Yong Peng home.

The 27-year-old is undergoing chemotherapy for lymphoma.

The funds were from the Welfare Association of Ministers’ Wives (Bakti) which was initiated by Dr Wee’s wife.

Rais’ family had sought help from various parties to raise a total of RM60,000 for the treatment.

“According to Rais’ mother, he did not want to go through the treatment because of the side effects. But I persuaded him to go for the chemotherapy as scheduled.

“I also pray that he will recover completely from the cancer, ” he said.

In another posting, Dr Wee reminded Malaysians to continue following standard operating procedure during the Hari Raya Haji celebrations.

“People can now travel interstate to celebrate with their families but please remember we are still in the middle of a pandemic, so take every precaution to prevent the spread of Covid-19, ” he said.

The Transport Minister also joined his constituents performing sacrificial rites at Kampung Parit Tengah Mukim 8 Parit Raja, Kampung Parit Hj Hamid and Kampung Seri Paya.

Dr Wee said about 25 such events would be held in Ayer Hitam over the weekend.
