GEORGE TOWN: It will be a low-key Hari Raya Haji celebration for 42-year-old single father Ahmad Iswadi Arshad and his family this year.
Ahmad, an airport limousine driver, said he would only be celebrating with his four children, brothers and mother due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Every year we would join villagers in Balik Pulau to perform ‘korban’, but this year, the mosque in our village decided to skip it, ” he said.
To cheer up the family, Ahmad said he would be making lemang.
“I will make sure my family members take part in the preparation of lemang, cooking the rendang and a special meal to celebrate Raya Haji.
“It has become a Raya tradition for my family to make lemang for ourselves and also for neighbours. In fact, some of my friends have also asked me for lemang, ” said the father of four children aged between four and 16.
He said the spike in Covid-19 cases over the past few days cemented his decision to not celebrate Raya Haji on a big scale.
