Businessman fined RM5,500 for drink-driving

PORT DICKSON: A businessman has been fined RM5,500 by the Magistrate’s Court here for drink-driving.

A. Devarajan, who was detained after he was involved in a minor accident near here at 4.45pm last Saturday, pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him before magistrate Siti Huzaifah Abd Talib.

The magistrate ordered him to serve five months in jail if he was unable to pay the fine.

Devarajan, 34, admitted committing the offence at KM3.2 Jalan Pantai near here.

He was convicted under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which provides a fine of between RM1,000 and RM6,000 or a jail term not exceeding 12 months.

Devarajan paid the fine.

Based on the facts of the case, Devarajan was involved in an minor accident with another car driven by a 43-year-old businessman while heading towards Lukut from Teluk Kemang.
