Stiffer drink-driving punishments among Road Transport Act amendments tabled in Parliament on Monday (July 27)

KUALA LUMPUR: The amendments to the Road Transport Act have been tabled in Parliament for its first reading on Monday (July 27).

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong had tabled the Road Transport (Amendment) Bill 2020 in the Dewan Rakyat with the second reading of the Bill also scheduled to be done in the current Parliament meeting.

It was reported that drunk drivers will be looking at longer mandatory jail time and higher fines if the proposed amendments to the law is given the green light.

Among the proposed amendments include increasing prison sentences for those causing death or injury due to drink-driving from 10 years to 15 years, and increasing fines up to RM100,000.
