GEORGE TOWN: Umno welcomes those who used to be Umno leaders but have now become leaders of other parties, says supreme council member Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.

He said that Umno has no qualms taking people who used to be from the party back into its fold.

“To me, we welcome them. There may be incidents that happened which caused their exit from Umno but they are Umno people, Umno leaders.

“So it is better if they can return to Umno and continue our fight like before, ” he said while officiating RapidPenang’s 13th anniversary celebration here at its headquarters in Lorong Kulit.

“Even before this, I issued a statement calling for Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to come back to Umno.

“But for the question of who would become Umno’s president, it is up to the Umno members to decide, not up to one or two individuals.

“If Muhyiddin receives support from Umno members, then he will continue to be the president.

“If Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi still holds the support, then he will continue to be president.

“Nothing is permanent in these positions. It depends on the party members.

“But next year, there would be a selection and whether the posts remain, it would be up to the members, ” he added.
