He took over from Datuk Zaleha Rose Pandin on July 11 and his term will end on July 10, 2022.
Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal described Soh as an icon in the legal fraternity with vast knowledge of the legal system.
“I am confident that he can improve our legal system and help in the restructuring or law reforms in Sabah,” Shafie said after handing over the appointment letter to Soh yesterday.
He added that laws, especially overlapping ones, needed to be restructured and updated in line with current times.
Soh said there was a need for existing state laws to be modernised so that they could stay relevant for the state and the people.
“These will include future amendments to the land law, environmental laws as well as new laws for building management to regulate the ownership and management of multi-storey developments.
“We will continue to engage with all relevant stakeholders and the people to ensure such laws are not only suitable but practical,” he said.
Soh also said that he valued collaboration with private practitioners of the legal fraternity in the state law reform committee and anticipated future coordination on matters of common interest with the Sabah Law Society. He said taking over from his predecessors on a solid platform, they would focus on capacity-building, realising talent and being future-ready.
“I am deeply honoured and humbled by this constitutional appointment by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri and especially to the Chief Minister for the trust placed in me for this position,” he added.
He said his chambers would continue the principles of justice and fairness to all concerned in accordance with the principles of equality before the law and equal protection of the law.
“As the state Attorney General, I pledge to uphold the rule of law in relation to the federal and state constitutions and will continue the pursuit of our state rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 and the Inter-Governmental Committee Report,” said Soh.
