Car driver in fatal crash that killed nine-year-old only has motorcycle licence, say Melaka cops

ALOR GAJAH: A 28-year-old man with only a motorcycle licence was allegedly behind the wheels of a car during a fatal crash that claimed the life of a nine-year-old pupil on Wednesday (July 22).

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu said his men are now probing how long had the man been driving a car without a legitimate licence.

"The man is currently undergoing treatment for head injuries and we will thoroughly investigate the accident," he said in an interview here on Thursday (July 23).

The victim was identified as Nur Aqilah Husna from Batu 15 1/2 Kampung Paya Datok here.

The Year Three pupil of SK Parit Melana was found pinned under a lorry in the accident involving four vehicles at Jalan Panchor, Durian Tunggal here at 7.20am on Wednesday.

The victim's 33-year-old father was also injured in the accident.

It is learnt the driver of the car who only possessed a "B2" motorcycle licence, had apparently lost control of his vehicle before skidding and colliding with a lorry, a multi-purpose vehicle and a motorcycle where the victim was riding as pillion.

Supt Arshad said he had rushed to the scene on Wednesday just after hearing a schoolgirl had been killed in the crash.

"My heart sank to see a lifeless child under a lorry in her school uniform," he said.

The victim is the eldest among two other siblings.

The victim was supposed to attend the first day school following the reopening of school for Year One to Year Four pupils on Wednesday.

The incident also received the attention of Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

“I want to extend my deepest condolences to her family. I also hope that Aqilah’s father recovers swiftly from his injuries sustained in the accident,” Dr Wee had said in a Facebook post.

The victim was buried at the Muslim burial ground a Kampung Beringin, Durian Tunggal here on Wednesday.
