SIBU: Five women were among seven people fined for violating the recovery movement control order (MCO) during a joint operation conducted here on Tuesday (July 21).
Sibu Deputy OCPD Supt Collin Babat said an integrated team comprising the police, Health Department and Sibu Municipal Council carried out the operation at several places from 9pm to 10pm.
The team was headed by Sibu Crime Prevention and Community Policing Department, DSP Ariffin Bahar.
Supt Collin said the operator of a cafe on Jalan Pahlawan was compounded together with three customers for not observing social distancing of at least 1m.
"At a sundry shop on Jalan Lau King Howe, the team issued compounds to two joint operators and a worker for the same offence. The two operators were women aged 18 and 32," he added.
All seven persons violated Regulation 3 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020.
He said the Health Department also fined three people for smoking in a cafe on Jalan Foochow.
"Operators of cafes and restaurants are advised to follow the standard operating procedure of the recovery MCO by scanning the body temperature of customers before allowing them to enter their premises.
“They must also ensure customers register their particulars either manually or through
online application and to ensure social distancing," he said.
Supt Collin also urged customers not to bring underage children to cafes and bistros.
