14 foreigners arrested for human trafficking during Ops Benteng

PUTRAJAYA: Police arrested 14 foreign nationals at Ops Benteng, as authorities continue to nip human trafficking in the bud.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the foreigners were nabbed at roadblocks held on July 19.

Police, he said, set up 65 road blocks on Sunday and checked 36,001 vehicles to prevent illegal immigrants from smuggling into the country, particularly through illegal routes.

"The public are urged to report to authorities should they come across suspicious activities," he said on Monday (July 20).

Ismail Sabri said the task force monitoring compliance of standard operating procedures, carried out 61,907 checks on Sunday to ensure that SoPs were observed.

The checks include 3,681 supermarkets, 5,535 restaurants, 1,882 hawkers and 2,086 factories.

The taskforce also inspected 3,458 banks, 754 government offices as well as land, air and sea transport terminals.
