IPOH: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) will contest the Slim by-election following the death of assemblyman Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib, says its Perak party chief.

Farhash Wafa Salvador Rizal Mubarak said the party would nominate a local candidate to stand in the by-election following the death of the four-term Umno assemblyman.

“I want to express my condolences to Khusairi’s family.

“PKR will defend his legacy by nominating someone from the constituency, ” he said in a statement Thursday (July 16).

Khusairi, 59, was pronounced dead at Bentong Hospital at 4.15pm on Wednesday (July16).

He is believed to have suffered a heart attack and leaves behind his wife, Datin Jamaliah Nordin, and seven children.

In the 14th General Election, Khusairi retained the state seat with a 2,183 majority by defeating Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s Mohd Amran Ibrahim and Muhammad Zulfadli Zainal of PAS.
