KOTA KINABALU: DAP and Parti Warisan Sabah held a solidarity gathering in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday (July 14).

The gathering – held at Rumah Sabah, Kuala Lumpur and hosted by Sabah chief minister and Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal – was to explore the way forward for the Opposition and on how DAP and Warisan can work better together in the event of snap polls.

DAP's Kota Kinabalu MP Chan Foong Hin said the gathering was also to foster closer relations among MPs from both parties.

“We want to thank the Warisan leadership for being committed in partnering with Pakatan Harapan and for being consistent in honouring the people’s mandate following GE14, ” he said.

Chan added that such decisive leadership helped to reinforce the strength of the Federal opposition as displayed in the fight against the motion to remove the Dewan Rakyat speaker Tan Sri Mohammad Ariff Md Yusof on Monday (July 13).

“Despite failing to defeat the motion, the 109 MPs stood together and we vow to strengthen our political relationship, ” he said.

Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun took his oath as Speaker earlier Monday after the Dewan Rakyat narrowly passed a motion to replace his predecessor Tan Sri Mohammad Ariff Md Yusof by 111 to 109 votes, with Kota Marudu MP absent with leave and Batu Pahat MP abstaining.
