SHAH ALAM: Parti Amanah Nasional’s Morib assemblyman Hasnul Baharuddin has been appointed as the Selangor Legislative Assembly deputy Speaker.
The announcement was made at 10.05am Monday (July 13) when the House convened for the first day of its two-week session.
The proposal was mooted by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, and the new deputy Speaker then signed the relevant documents and took his oath of office.
Hasnul replaces Sementa assemblyman Dr Daroyah Alwi, who resigned after ditching PKR on June 6 and turning independent.
Next to his party colleague three-term Hulu Kelang assemblyman Saari Sungib, Hasnul is the the most senior among the state's eight Amanah assemblymen in terms of their tenure as an elected representative.
He was first elected as the Morib assemblyman under the PAS ticket in the 2013 general election and he nd Saari were also the only two out of the 15 PAS elected representatives who supported PKR's efforts to eject then-Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim out of office.
Subsequently, he and Saari dumped PAS and became pioneer members of Amanah when it was formed in 2015.
