PETALING JAYA: Two people were arrested for driving while intoxicated following an anti-drink driving operation here late on Friday (July 10) night.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the 38-year-old man and the 43-year-old woman were detained during the operation held between 11pm on Friday and 3am on Saturday in the district.

"Their blood alcohol levels were above the permitted limit.

"We inspected 500 vehicles and issued 16 summonses for various traffic violations," he said on Saturday (July 11).

The main objective of the operation was to stop motorists from driving while under the influence of alcohol, ACP Nik Ezanee said.

"Sadly, there are still many driving while intoxicated.

"They not only endanger themselves but others on the road as well," he added.

ACP Nik Ezanee said the police would continue with such operations.
