PETALING JAYA: It is imperative to instil Rukunegara principles in children, says Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker.

The Deputy National Unity Minister said children were priceless treasures for families and even the country as they would be the ones who would one day lead.

"We must protect and teach them to read and write. We must also instil in them the meaning of racial unity.

"It is imperative that we instil the principles of the Rukunegara so that the country will continue to remain developed and independent.

"This is the promise of the Ministry — our children, whom we have never forsaken," he said in a Facebook post on Saturday (July 11).

Ti, who is also MCA vice-president, said he and National Unity Minister Datuk Halimah Mohamed Sadique inspected the conditions at Taska Genius Perpaduan in Kuching, Sarawak.

He said the childcare centre was in a good condition.

"The standard operating procedure (SOP) of the recovery movement control order (MCO) are being followed. During our inspection, the children were sleeping well," he said.
