KOTA KINABALU: The Health Ministry will work closely with the Opposition-led Sabah government in efforts to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, says Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.
The Health Minister said the Covid-19 pandemic was a national concern and they were fully focused on working with the state government to ensure that the problem of Covid-19 is contained not only in the state but nationwide.
He said Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal fully understood the issues facing the country and had been proactive and taken actions recommended by the ministry.
"For the sake of national safety, politics or other issues should not arise. We all have to work together," he told reporters after a courtesy call to Shafie at his office here Thursday (July 9).
Dr Adham said the Chief Minister would be involved at state level for the nationwide community campaign to be launched by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on July 24.
On Thursday, the Sabah Education Department withdrew an invitation to Shafie to be the guest of honour at the state-level Teacher's Day launch here, sparking concerns whether the Federal Government was cutting off working relations with the Opposition state.
Meanwhile, Dr Adham said the return of students to schools on July 15 would be another test in checking the spread of Covid-19.
He said it was important for everyone to follow the standard operating procedure to prevent any new clusters from emerging.
