WHAT started as the beginning of a new decade filled with endless possibilities quickly turned into a year of uncertainties as the country went into the different phases of movement control order (MCO) as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Many Malaysians took to social media to share their thoughts and frustrations about staying at and working from home during the MCO as well as what they would do after MCO.
Leveraging on this insight, Hong Leong Bank has launched its fourth annual Digital Day campaign to kick start the bank’s new financial year with the theme “Reboot Your 2020” with exciting deals and shopping promotions the entire month of July to encourage customers to reboot, refresh and restart their year with HLB’s digital banking and cashless platforms.
HLB's Group managing director and chief executive officer Domenic Fuda said while the deals and promotions are designed to meet customers’ post-MCO needs, the bank is hoping to encourage customers to continue to use and embrace digital banking and going cashless in the wake of the new normal way of life that’s increasingly digital.
“As we settle into the ‘new normal’, everything we touch and do now will involve a digital element.
"We saw an 11% increment in digital banking transactions during the MCO period and notably a 13-fold increase in the total transaction value amount of e-wallet top-ups over a period of two months from March-May 2020, compared to the same period last year. "We hope that the MCO is the catalyst for customers to fully embrace a digital lifestyle, having experienced how simple, seamless and safe digital banking and cashless payments could be for them.”
To kick off the campaign and inspire Malaysians to have a more positive outlook for the rest of 2020, HLB released a campaign music video featuring local singers Elizabeth Tan and Sufian Suhaimi to unite people through the power of music.
The catchy "Reboot Your 2020" music video which has garnered over 2.6 million views after six days of release, encapsulates the idea of rebooting the year on a more enthusiastic and optimistic note with friends and family through meaningful and rewarding experiences that bring everyone together.
“We’ve just been through an unprecedented time and experience during the first half of the year, but we are far from done with 2020.
"As we move towards the recovery phase, we have much to look forward to as we see this year through, hand-in-hand with our customers.
"That’s the reason why we choose to deliver the message of reboot, restart and refresh through a positive and upbeat tune and we hope this will resonate not only with our customers, but with all Malaysians, ” said HLB's chief marketing and communication officer Zalman Zainal.
“We know that Malaysians have a love for connecting with each other, especially over food and a fantastic deal. These were among the simple pleasures we were forced to do without during the various MCO periods which is why we tailored our offerings to reflect these lifestyle choices.
"At the end of the day, we want to empower our customers with the ability to reboot, refresh and restart their 2020 on a better footing so that they may be able to not only remain resilient but also thrive by taking advantage of our Digital Day offerings which will last until the end of this month.”
Speaking on the music video, Tan said. “I had a lot of fun shooting the music video because I felt like everyone could relate to it. During the MCO, I connected with friends and family over video calls as I’m sure many did and along the way, I also found new hobbies to help me pass the time.
"I look forward to getting back on track and rebooting, refreshing and restarting my 2020!”
“I hope that the music video is able to spread some positive vibes all around as we could all do with a little positivity for the rest of 2020. This year is not over yet and we should march into the second half of the year with the mindset that we can turn things around for ourselves, ” said Sufian.
For the entire month of July 2020, there will be on-going deals with discounts and freebies from merchant partners including 99Speedmart, Puma, Amazin Graze and many more when you shop online with HLB.
Customers can also enjoy higher cashback and rewards as well as attractive interest rates for loans and financing, term investments, fixed deposits, current and savings accounts and more, throughout the month.
On July 20, shopaholics and foodies should save-the-date as there will be a one-day only Mega Sale with over RM1mil in cashbacks and discounts up for grabs.
Throughout the coming year, customers can look forward to more digital “reboots” and enhancements across all banking segments not just retail, including Business and Corporate Banking, SME and Islamic Banking. The new digital solutions that will be rolled out will greatly ease the transition and adoption of a digital lifestyle. Some of these include low-cost contactless payment solutions, mobile banking upgrades for business customers, digital investments, eKYC account opening, as well as, expanding on existing offerings to create more convenient, customer focused products and services.
