KEPALA BATAS: Nine people were injured when a multipurpose vehicle collided head-on with a pickup truck at Jalan Permatang Tiga here on Sunday (July 5) night.
Seberang Prai Utara OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the incident occurred when the pickup truck, driven by 29-year-old Muhamad Faiz Harun from Kepala Batas to Sungai Lokan, went out of control and crashed into the MPV carrying a family of eight coming in the opposite direction.
"The driver of the MPV Ahmad Sukri Ishak, 40, was pinned inside the car," he said in a statement Monday (July 6).
Firefighters from the Butterworth fire station were called in to rescue the victim.
Sukri sustained a broken leg.
Other family members escaped with minor injuries: Noor Hidayah Abdul Halim, 37; Nur Hannan Ahmad Sukri, 10; Nur Nuha Ahmad Sukri, eight; Nur Nuha Ahmad Sukri, two; Sariah Saad, 70; Nor Amila Abdul Halim, 29; and Afifah Inshirah Mohd Asri, nine.
The other driver, Faiz, suffered chest and head injuries.
All victims were taken to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for further treatment.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1)(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
