KOTA KINABALU: A drug runner who was paid RM20 per “assignment” has been arrested.

The 42-year-old Filipino was caught with 50.71g of syabu with a street value of RM5,071 at Kampung Vietnam in Tanjung Batu in Sabah’s east coast district of Tawau, said district police chief Asst Comm Peter Umbah.

The suspect did not have any identity document and is believed to have entered the state illegally.

A police team from the anti-narcotics unit approached the suspect, who tried to flee but was overpowered.

“Upon checking his pockets, they found a plastic packet containing five other packets of different sizes with a crystalline substance,” ACP Peter said yesterday.

He added that the suspect claimed he was paid RM20 to deliver the drugs.
