KOTA KINABALU: The only remaining temporary relief centre in Kota Belud has been deactivated, as the last 36 flood evacuees return to their homes.

The Tun Said community hall was officially closed as of noon Friday (July 3), according to Sabah Civil Defence Department director Col Kamal Mokhtar.

Previously, 17 shelters were opened to house over 1,200 villagers across five flood-stricken districts, following a downpour on Saturday (June 27).

The flood victims were allowed to return home in stages starting Monday (June 29) as water levels decreased in their villages after a bout of favourable weather.
