PETALING JAYA: The girlfriend of a suspected snatch thief has been detained by the police after they found a stolen phone on her.

The police detained her after follow-up investigations to a snatch theft that occurred at an eatery in Sea Park here on July 1.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said the victim who lost the phone was eating when two men on a motorcycle rode up and stole it.

"Patrols in the Sea Park area led to the discovery of two suspicious men on a motorcycle.

"They fled when police tried to approach. One of the suspects, aged 21, was arrested and the second suspect, who goes by 'Ayien Medan' managed to escape," said Petaling Jaya OCPD Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal in a statement Wednesday (July 2).

Questioning of the suspect led to the arrest of another suspect, a woman.

"The woman, aged 19, is believed to be Ayien Medan's girlfriend. She was found with the victim's handphone," he said, adding that both suspects have been remanded for six days.

Investigations are ongoing to locate the escaped suspect.

In an unrelated incident, the police arrested two suspects who allegedly masqueraded as a police officer and a court official as part of a scam.

In the incident, which occurred in 2019, a victim lost RM3,000 after revealing his bank details to the scammers.

"He was told that he had credit card arrears and was involved in illegal money laundering and drug syndicates," he said.

On July 1, two local men were arrested in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong. Both have been remanded for two days.

"Investigations are ongoing to identify any other links and to trace down the mastermind of the scam syndicate," he said.
