KOTA KINABALU: MASwings has begun reinstating its flight schedules under its second phase in a bid to return to normal scheduling following reduced frequencies and flight suspension since the movement control order (MCO) on March 18.
The company, in a statement, said that the second phase of reinstating flight schedules would start Wednesday (July 1), and gradually meet the normal schedule as per the Public Service Obligation (PSO) Agreement by end October this year.
Since the recovery MCO took effect on June 10, most major travel restrictions have been lifted, with conditions and exceptions imposed by respective state authorities, the company said.
“This allows airlines, including MASwings, to re-visit its operations to meet passengers’ travel requirements, ” the statement said.
Effective today, MASwings has begun operating up to 59% of its ATR-500 and 81% of its Viking DHC6 Twin Otter flights for its scheduled services in Sabah and Sarawak.
The company said that while interstate travel was given leniency and encouragement for domestic tourism, the country's borders remained closed and regular flights from Tawau to Tarakan (in Kalimantan) are still suspended.
MASwings, like its sister airlines Malaysia Airlines and Firefly, have also implemented health and safety measures on board.
These include the enforcement of mask-wearing for all passengers and crew, temperature checks, sanitisation and disinfection of all aircraft and facilities, and enforcement of social distancing during queues to keep passengers safe.
The company also said it was supporting Tourism Malaysia’s efforts to boost and increase domestic tourism during the recovery MCO period.
They are offering the “Rediscover Borneo '' promo for RM170 on selected ATR routes, which are up for grabs from now until Jul 31,2020, for the travel period starting now until Aug 31.
The Rediscover Borneo fares are inclusive of airport taxes, Carrier Imposed Fee (CIF), and subject to MASwings’ terms and conditions.
Some 20kg of check-in baggage allowance and light refreshment on board is also included as part of the airline’s efforts to offer comfort and "Malaysian Hospitality" during flights, the statement said.
The offers are available through MASwings/Malaysia Airlines website, ticket offices, and appointed travel agents or via the 24-hour call centre at 1-300 88 3000.
