KOTA KINABALU: A 17-year-old student was killed after his motorcycle collided with a four-wheel drive vehicle in Tawau district on Monday (June 29).
The victim, identified as Muhammad Nazrul Hisyam Firman, was riding his motorcycle on the way home when the 8.35pm incident occurred on Jalan Utara Baru near the Taman King Fook junction.
Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Peter Umbuas said initial investigations showed that the oncoming four-wheel drive vehicle driver entered the victim’s lane heading into the junction, causing Muhammad to crash into the vehicle.
“The victim was thrown onto the front part of the vehicle before falling on the road, while his motorcycle was dragged about 3m from the scene following the accident, ” he said in a statement on Tuesday (June 30).
He was taken to the Tawau hospital and pronounced dead at 9.32pm.
ACP Peter said the driver, in his 30s, had been remanded to assist in investigations into reckless driving under the Road Transport Act.
