PUTRAJAYA: Former Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Abu Zahar Ujang has been appointed as the chairman of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)’s advisory board.
The anti-graft commission announced this in a statement on Tuesday (June 30), alongside the appointments of six other board members.
Their tenure is for two years, effective May 21.
“The appointments were made by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, upon the advice of the prime minister in accordance with Section 13 of the MACC Act, ” said the statement.
The other members of the board include former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar, former Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang and former Transparency International Malaysia president Datuk Seri Akhbar Satar.
Akhbar is also currently the Malaysian Association of Certified Fraud Examiners president.
Also appointed to the board are The IA Group managing director Datuk Dr Hamzah Kassim, DC&A Group managing director Datuk David Chua Kok Tee and Univeristi Kebangsaan Malaysia academician Assoc Prof Datuk Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff.
Meanwhile, another 12 individuals were appointed to MACC’s Consultation and Prevention of Corruption Panel (PPPR), while five others were named members of the commission’s Operations Evaluation Panel (PPO)
Their appointments of the PPPR took effect on June 1 until May 31,2022, while the PPO members tenure is from April 1 this year to May 30,2002.
Chairing the PPPR is former Public Service Department director-general Tan Sri Borhan Dollah.
Meanwhile, former Deputy Head of Prosecution Division II in the Attorney General’s Chambers Datuk Ahmad Rosli Mohd Sham will chair the PPO.
All received their appointment letters from MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki at the MACC headquarters on Tuesday.
“All 24 appointees are professionals and experts in fields that represent the various sections of the community, in order to help monitor the execution of MACC’s functions and operations, ” the statement said.
