KUALA LUMPUR: A coalition of youths representing various political parties lodged a police report against a book, which allegedly insulted the "Jata Negara" on its cover.

“We are here in solidarity as Malaysians. We ask the government to take strict action.

“This is not about race or religion, ” said Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Mohamed Nizham Abdullah Hamidi when met outside Dang Wangi police headquarters on Monday (June 29).

The group, which also included representatives from the youth wings of PAS, MCA and MIC, entered the police headquarters around 1.00pm.

The group was seen exiting the building after 30 minutes.

“There are those that do not support the government of the day and that is okay since this is a democratic country. But an insult to a logo that represents the sovereignty of our country? That is too much, ” he added.

Umno Youth member Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo, questioned if the Home Ministry gave permission to sell the book.

“We are still waiting for an official answer from the Home Ministry. As far as we know this book was published in 2019. We hope they investigate it further.

“From what we know this book was sold online and has been in the local market, ” he said.
