JOHOR BARU: The police have arrested four people, including a policeman, for involvement in drug trafficking activities in Muar.
Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay said that the arrest was made based on a follow-up to a drug seizure worth RM2.67mil in waters off Parit Samsu, Muar made by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) on June 1 (Monday).
“There are two suspects that managed to escape from the MMEA's clutch.
"A follow-up operation was conducted by the Muar Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) and the Marine Police on June 6 (Saturday).
“The operation managed to nab three people, including the initial two suspects, along with drugs, namely 2.1kg syabu worth RM84,000, ” he said during a press conference at the Johor Police Contingent Headquarters here, on Monday (June 29).
Based on the interrogation of the suspects, police made another follow-up arrest on a 40-year-old policeman with the rank of a lance corporal attached with the Muar District Police on June 25 (Thursday).
He was arrested under Section 3(1) of the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985.
All those arrests are between the age of 23 and 37. Urine tests revealed that two of the suspects were positive for methamphetamine.
The background checks also revealed that two of them have four counts in their criminal record involving drugs.
All suspects are currently under remand for 11 days. The case is investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 and Section 15 (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
