MIRI: Four people, including a baby, survived a head-on collision between a van and a car in the early hours of Wednesday (June 24) along the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarawak.
The 5am incident took place near Sg Dalam along the Miri-Bintulu section of the highway, said Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department.
In the incident, the car, driven by a 35-year-old woman, who was with her two-year-old baby girl, collided with a cargo van with two men inside.
"We received an emergency call about the accident and rushed a team to the site.
"The mother was trapped in the wreckage.
"The baby and the two men were rescued at the scene by passers-by, who pulled them out to safety.
"The vehicles collided head-on," the department said in its latest updates.
Rescuers used extraction tools to cut open the wreck to reach the woman who was pinned to her seat.
The four were then rushed to the Miri Hospital for admission into the emergency ward.
