Three Navy men killed as vehicle crashes in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: Three Navy personnel were killed and another injured after the lorry they were in crashed near Bundu Tuhan along the Tamparuli–Ranau road near here.

A statement by the Sandakan Navy base's communications unit identified the deceased as Laskar Kanan Maslim Abdul Rahim, Laskar Kelas 1 Mohamad Firdaus Mat Izan and Laskar Kelas 1 Muhamad Arif Idris.

The injured man was identified as Laskar Kelas II Vincent M. Orel.

According to the statement, the four were on their way from Sandakan to the Sepanggar Naval base in Kota Kinabalu when the accident occurred close to the Bundu Tuhan junction in Kundasang at 1pm on Tuesday.

Ranau police are carrying out an investigation at the scene, while Ranau Fire and Rescue Services Department officer Ridwan Mohd Taib said they received a distress call about the incident at 1.03pm.

He said the three deceased were removed from the wreckage by members of the public and taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by police while firemen sent the injured man to the Ranau hospital.
