KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Dr Mohamed Haniffa Abdullah has been appointed as the Social Security Organisation (Socso)'s board chairman.
This was announced by Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M. Saravanan on Monday (June 15).
Dr Haniffa is also the Mahsa University pro-chancellor and the executive chairman of Mahsa Group.
Datuk Abdul Halim Mansor, who is MTUC president, Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) president Adnan Mat and Sarawak MTUC chairman Mohamad Ibrahim Hamid were also appointed as Socso board members, as the representatives of insured persons.
Datuk Seri Mohd Annuar Zaini, Dr Arul Raj Raju and Dr P. Thanaletchumy were also appointed as board members as the representative of experienced people in social security.
Earlier, Saravanan congratulated the new board members and chairman, saying that the appointments were not based on their political ideology but their experience and expertise.
"Dr Haniffa is a medical practitioner and has vast experience in his field and education.
"I believe that with the almost perfect new line-up, we will be able to implement all the initiatives introduced to face the current economic challenges," said the minister.
