PETALING JAYA: The RM50mil matching grant for gig economy platforms to provide a social safety net system is the pathway to enlarge the contribution of the gig workers to the economy, says an economics expert.
Sunway University economics professor Dr Yeah Kim Leng said the lack of benefits such as work injury insurance and retirement savings were some of the disadvantages facing gig workers that the Short-Term Economic Recovery Plan tries to address.
