KOTA KINABALU: Polio vaccination has resumed in Sabah and parents have been urged to bring their children for their dose.
Sabah Health Department director Datuk Dr Christina Rundi said the polio vaccination programme, which was postponed over the past two months due to Covid-19 and the movement control order (MCO), has now been restarted.
"It is important that all children under the age of 13 regardless of nationality or completed immunisation up to age get vaccinated,” she said.
"Our campaign previously involves providing children with four doses of vaccine - two doses of the bOPV (bivalent Oral Polio Vaccine) and two doses of the mOPV (monovalent Oral Polio Vaccine)," Dr Rundi said. She said all parents must bring their children to get these vaccines.
As of June 3, only 81.3% of the targeted groups have received their first dose of the bOPV while 50% have received their second dose of the bOPV.
On other matters, Dr Rundi said Covid-19 cases in Sabah remained at 348 cases as of June 4.
"Those who wish to enter Sabah must have tested negative for Covid-19 before they can come in and health officials at the entry points will evaluate again whether a person needs to check into state quarantine facilities," she said.
