109,617 school-leavers offered a spot in public higher learning institutions

PETALING JAYA: A total of 109,617 school-leavers who completed Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) last year have been offered a spot in public universities, teachers’ training institutes (IPG), matriculation colleges, polytechnics, community colleges, public skills training institutes (ILKA) and University Teknologi Mara’s (UiTM) architecture degree for the 2020/2021 academic session.

The Higher Education Ministry said public higher learning institutions (IPTA) will be issuing an official letter to successful candidates starting Thursday (June 4).

“Candidates who receive the letter must accept the offer latest by June 8. Registration date for new students begins on June 5 until Jan 4, 2021, in accordance with their respective IPTAs.

“We (ministry) have practised meritocracy in this student recruitment process. All eligible candidates with the highest merit scores regardless of race, religion, state, standard of living and background were given the opportunity to study at IPTAs,” said the statement issued by the ministry Wednesday (June 3).

It added that no quota system was used in the recruitment process.

“Offers for the 2020/2021 academic session are final. No changes are allowed. Appeal requests are subjected to vacancies available in a specific programme after enrollment is complete,” it said.

Applicants to IPTAs can check their results through UPUOnline or the mobile application UPUPocket 2.0 starting now.

The results, which are for entrance into foundation, certificate, diploma and bachelor’s degree studies, can also be checked on http://jpt.umt.edu.my, http://jpt.ums.edu.my, https://jpt.unimas.my, https://jpt.utm.my and http://jpt.uum.edu.my.

The registration date of new students for the 17 public universities, IPG, matriculation colleges, polytechnics, community colleges and ILKA has been published on the ministry’s official Facebook page.

Applicants who failed to secure offers can submit appeals via UPUOnline Rayuan at http://upu.moe.gov.my within five working days.

A hotline will be opened to assist applicants in checking their results and offering consultation services.

Applicants can call the hotline at 03-8870 8200 from 8.30am to 4pm, starting today till June 10, or email upu@moe.gov.my for further inquiries.
