KOTA KINABALU: About 120 needy families in the Semporna district received food assistance from the Penggerak Komuniti Negara (PKN) over the weekend.

Semporna PKN person-in-charge Nazmahwati Walli said the contributions were made possible through donations from, among others, the federal Housing and Local Government Ministry and the Women and Family Development Ministry.

“The assistance was given to families in Kg Bakau, Kg Balembang, Kg Bangau-Bangau, Kg Ayer, Kg Pakalangan, Kg Labuan Senang, Kg Sungai Tohok, Kg Bubul, Kg Tanggulangan, Kg Rancangan Baru and Taman Emas, ” she said.

The families received food items such as rice, dried noodles, cooking oil, eggs, sugar and condensed milk.

Nazmahwati said such efforts are important as many families have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and the movement control order (MCO).

Many lost their jobs and income and have a hard time living their day-to-day lives, Nazmahwati said.

“We hope more people will come forward to assist those in need during difficult times such as now, ” she said.

Nazmahwati also reminded the public to practise social distancing and high hygiene standards to curb the spread of Covid-19.
