KEPALA BATAS: Penang police have smashed a drug syndicate with the arrest of six suspects and seizure of drugs worth almost RM400,000.
North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the suspects, aged between 25 and 58, were arrested in raids on six locations at north and central Seberang Prai.
He said the operation began at 6pm Saturday (May 30) until 7pm Sunday (May 31).
"The drugs seized were 2.5g syabu, 2.1g heroine and 4417.3g of 'pil kuda'," he said during a press conference at north Seberang Prai police headquarters.
ACP Noorzainy said the total drugs seized during the operation were RM398,500 and can be used by 39,900 addicts.
ACP Noorzainy said the syndicate is believed to have been distributing drugs to the local market and had been active since six months ago.
He said the suspects have been remanded for seven days.
The case is investigated under Section 39B, 39A(1), 39A (2) and 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
One of the suspects will also be investigated under Section 31 of the Dangerous Drug Act (Special Prevention Measures) 1985.
