Tougher drink-driving laws should cover other intoxicating substances as well, says Lee Lam Thye

PETALING JAYA: Stiffer penalties for drink driving should also be imposed on those found to be under the influence of other intoxicating substances while behind the wheel, says Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye (pic).

"Serious attention should be given to this matter not only in relation to the provisions of driving while under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs resulting in injury or death, which is Section 44 of the Road Transport Act, but also being in charge of motor vehicles when under the influence of intoxicating liquor or drugs in accordance with Section 45 of the same act, even though the individual is not involved in any accidents," the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) senior vice-chairman said in a statement Sunday (May 31).
