PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded 103 new Covid-19 cases on Friday (May 29), taking the total number of infections to 7,732 cases.

The spike in the number of infections is due to the discovery of 53 cases from the Pedas cluster in Negri Sembilan and a new cleaning services company cluster.

On the cleaning services cluster, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 24 cases were detected and all were Bangladesh nationals.

Speaking at the ministry’s daily Covid-19 press conference here, Dr Noor Hisham said the cases were discovered after a private clinic conducted Covid-19 screening on the workers of a cleaning services company.

Of the 24 cases, 20 of them live in a hostel in Kuala Langat, Selangor and four others stay in an apartment in Nilai, Negri Sembilan.

The country however saw no Covid-19 deaths for the seventh consecutive day, keeping the death toll at 115.

Dr Noor Hisham also said 66 more patients have been discharged, which means 6,235 patients have recovered from Covid-19 in Malaysia since the outbreak began.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 recovery rate is now at 80.6% out of the total number of positive cases.

There are now 1,382 active cases being treated at the country’s health facilities at present.

Currently, there are eight patients treated at intensive care units (ICU) with two of them on ventilator support.
