PETALING JAYA: Malaysians have been urged to be wary of a new scam using Amanah Saham Nasional Bhd's (ASNB) logo, where unsuspecting victims would be duped into depositing their monies into a bogus investment scheme.

It said recently a message has been circulating on WhatsApp using ASNB’s logo with the intention of deceiving the public into investing in a scheme that did not exist.

The sender of the message would promise an extraordinary return of investment in a short period of time, and if the victim was interested to invest, he or she would have to deposit a certain amount of money into a bank account.

The con artist would then claim that the money would be invested in oil, stock and currency markets, and that investors would only need to wait for the profits to be credited directly into their accounts.

In a statement issued on Wednesday (May 27), ASNB said it took the matter taken very seriously and would not hesitate to take legal action against the perpetrators.

It also added that a police report had been lodged against the scam.

“We would like to advise the public to be cautious and contact the ASNB customer service centre if they receive any suspicious message about investment packages under ASNB’s name.”

It said that as a unit fund management company, it has never appointed any individual to offer any investment packages either directly or through any social messaging applications, including WhatsApp.

“ASNB has also never used and is not related to the ASNB Group for any product promotion or publicity activities, ” it added.

ASNB advised those who wish to invest in any of its unit trust funds to visit any ASNB branch or agent to open an investment account with their original IC.

Online additional investment, said ASNB, could be performed through its myASNB portal and its registered online banking services such as Maybank2u, CIMBClicks, RHB Now and AffinOnline.

“ASNB will not be responsible for any loss arising from investments in any scheme that is not authorised by ASNB, ” it added.
