KOTA KINABALU: It is everyone’s responsibility to keep a check on the spread of Covid-19, even as they celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri, says Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (pic).
“It is the responsibility of all of us, whether in the government or the rakyat, to play a role in checking the spread of Covid-19,” Shafie said in his Hari Raya message on Saturday (May 23).
He said people must observe all the standard operating procedures set by the National Security Council during the Hari Raya celebrations with their families under the conditional movement control order (MCO).
In view of the threat of the Covid-19 spread, he said that it was necessary for the government to take steps to limit the number of family members in a house, and also to stop balik kampung, among others.
“It is not our aim to control people’s movement during a celebration like Hari Raya. What is being done are preventive measures to stop the spread of the virus among the people,” he added.
Shafie said the state government was happy and thankful, as most people in the state were observing the various SOPs to check on the spread of the virus.
“I would also like to apologise to the people if some measures taken have affected their lives.
“What we have done was in good faith to curb the spread of Covid-19 in Sabah for the wellbeing and lives of the people,” he added.
