A simple Gawai for Dayaks in Johor

Keeping the tradition alive: Siblings Alvagir Ellisa Shra Tapoi, 11 (from left), Dick Samuel, 7, and Esther Febby Mallienny, 16, practising the traditional ‘Ngajat’ dance which they will perform for close family members at their home during Gawai this year.

JOHOR BARU: The Dayaks living in Johor are ready to keep the Gawai celebration simple this year as they do their part to contain the spread of Covid-19.

Apart from not being able to visit their families back in Sarawak for the Harvest Festival, many have also decided not to host guests and only celebrate it with close family members.
