SUBANG JAYA: Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman is desperate, hence his claim about positions in Cabinet and government-linked companies (GLCs) being offered to Umno members to entice them to join Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, says Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman.
The Umno supreme council member and Pasir Salak MP rubbished the Bersatu Youth chief's claim.
"It's untrue. He is desperate already, so he will say this and that.
"I am one of those who were given a position, but I'm with Umno.
"Whatever happens, I am an Umno man, and I will defend Umno," he said.
Tajuddin, who was made Prasarana Malaysia chairman recently, said that he did not think Umno members would defect to Bersatu.
"We work together with Bersatu and PAS as part of Perikatan Nasional.
"For Umno members, I don't think they will jump from one party to another," he said.
Tajuddin made the comments while speaking to the press after a working visit to the BRT Sunway Line depot here on Friday (May 22).
Syed Saddiq made the claim during a talk show on Facebook live on Thursday (May 21), moderated by Bersatu Youth information chief Ulya Aqamah Husamudin.
"We wouldn’t appoint Pontian MP Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan because he’s totally into Umno and won’t even consider joining Bersatu, but we pick certain Umno leaders, give them positions and slowly entice them to join Bersatu so that Bersatu becomes the dominant party.
“That’s why GLC appointments were given to several Umno political figures.
"Ministers were also chosen from among those who may be quite close to the Bersatu leadership," Syed Saddiq was quoted by Malaysiakini as saying during the talk show.
