PETALING JAYA: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has posthumously promoted Corporal Safwan Muhammad Ismail to the rank of Sargeant.

In a statement, Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said that the Police Service Commission had decided to grant the promotion after a meeting on May 21.

He added that the promotion is instated as of May 3.

"This is to recognise and appreciate his sacrifice, and for giving his full commitment as a frontliner during Ops Covid-19.

"I, as Home Minister, would like to again stress that the government is committed in seeking justice for him. His passing is a great loss to the police force. Al-Fatihah," he said on Friday (May 22).

On May 3, an alleged drunk driver ploughed through a movement control order (MCO) roadblock along the Lekas Highway, killing the policeman.
