PETALING JAYA: Malaysians will now be able to send "duit raya" to their family members through the e-wallet application Boost, despite being unable to celebrate Hari Raya together due to the interstate travel restrictions.

From May 18, Boost users have two new wallet options; the new Basic and the Premium Wallet.

The new Premium Wallet will come with a RM4,999 wallet size, which is three times its original size limit of RM1,500.

The Premium Wallet upgrade, will allow users to send "e-duit Raya" via the "send money" function on the app.

To enable the function, users need to upgrade their Boost account to the new Premium Wallet. This upgrade is free.

As Hari Raya approaches, Boost chief executive officer Mohd Khairil Abdullah said it is anticipated that there will be a surge in cashless payments across the country as Malaysians shop for their festive needs.

"In this new normal, Malaysians have embraced the contactless and cashless lifestyle while preparing for one of the most meaningful festive periods of the year.

"E-wallets have increasingly become a necessity during this outbreak as it is considered a cleaner and safer payment method. The timely introduction of Boost's larger wallet sizes allows Malaysians to confidently transact, enjoy rewards, cashback and savings while we continue to shop for Raya essentials.

"We hope to help Malaysians reduce the risk of Covid-19 spread and adjust to the new normal with cashless transactions," he said in a statement on Friday (May 22).

Boost has also launched its Partner Wallet, in which the new feature will give users more reasons to remain loyal to Boost's partner brands and merchants by rewarding users with instant cashbacks whenever they spend at these merchants on their next visit.

Throughout the Raya period, thirteen brands, notably Giant, Tesco, The Store, Caring, HelloGold, Watsons, PrestoMall, Zalora, Fave, JobbieNut, Potboy, HappyFresh, Alpro Pharmacy and Mydin will offer Malaysians a host of rewards, Boost said.

"Boost Partner Wallets will be visible after you have earned your cashback for spending at participating merchants and will expire according to the campaign or partner's terms and conditions.

"When you have earned cashback from a particular merchant, in the next purchase, the cashback from the respective Partner Wallet will automatically be factored in the total amount before deductions are made from your Boost wallet balance," Mohd Khairil said.

Boost has also introduced a new feature called 'BoostUP Pick & Win' which gives users the opportunity to convert their Boost Coins for entries to stand a chance to win amazing prizes.

Among the prizes include Samsung S20, Google Home and a 43-inch LED Smart TV.
