SHAH ALAM: Additional roadblocks on highways will be put up to prevent illegal interstate travel during the festive period.

Selangor police Covid-19 special spokesman Asst Comm Muhammad Yazid Muhammad Yew said that five new roadblocks will commence operations by Thursday (May 21).

“Yesterday (May 19), 21,993 cars were checked and 708 cars were instructed to turn back, ” he said at a press conference at the state police headquarters on Wednesday (May 20).

He also said from May 6 to 19, the police received 33,090 applications for interstate travel, of which 30,112 had been approved.

He also warned that those found making interstate travel without prior permission would be compounded.

“Now we mean business. No more 'advice', ”he said.

He also emphasised that house-to-house checks will be conducted during the festive period to see if people are complying with the set procedures.

“We will act on information obtained, ” he said.

On a separate matter, ACP Muhammad Yazid confirmed that a report has been lodged over three foreigners who recently ran away from Covid-19 screening in Sepang.

“We confirm that we have received a report. An operation to track them down is underway, ” he said.
