BATU PAHAT: A man was arrested for possessing contraband alcohol and cigarettes worth more than RM30,000 at Jalan Timun, Tongkang Pecah, here.
General Operations Force (GOF) Fifth Battalion commanding officer Supt Dimin Awang said the 46-year-old suspect was apprehended during a Covid-19 patrol in the area where they found the man driving in a suspicious condition.
“He was arrested around 8.45pm on Sunday (May 17). Inspection inside the car found 112 bottles of liquor and 60 cartons of cigarettes believed to be smuggled items worth RM30,087, ” he said in a statement here on Monday (May 18).
The case is investigated under Section 135(1) of the Customs Act 1967.
The seized items and the suspect have been handed over to Batu Pahat police department for further action.
